Heathy Dinner Tips

If your family is like mine, they are generally afraid to try new things, and they love foods that are high in fat and sugar. Every time I suggest eating healthier, I am met with opposition. Most of the members of my family believe that healthy can not possible taste good and they are resistant to trying it. Making a healthy dinner should be something that fills you with dread. It should be an enjoyable decision that the whole family learns to appreciate. Fortunately cooking a healthy dinner does not necessarily mean that you have to throw out your entire cook book and start from scratch. Many of you family's favorites can stay on the menu, with a few minor adjustments. These adjustments will make the food you eat bland. Instead they will add spice, variety, and the healthy spin that you are looking for.

Bake or Broil

One of the easiest things you can do to start off with is learn to bake, or broil, your food instead of frying it. Fried food is loaded with fat and oil that is unhealthy and can drain you of energy. Instead of frying the chicken, place it on a baking sheet, sprinkle some lemon pepper, or other seasoning, on it, spray lightly with cooking spray or a non butter spray, and bake it. The spices and seasonings you add will add a whole new dimension of flavor to your menu, while the new method of cooking will decrease the amount of fat and oil that is cooked into the food.

This method can be used with anything from meat to vegetables. There is no need to fry potatoes when you can bake and broil them. The end result is much the same, except of course for the amount of fat.

Greens Anyone

Adding green vegetables to your menu is the most beneficial thing you can do. Vegetables are, on average, loaded with vitamins and minerals that are great for you and your family, with green vegetables being at the top of the list. Green vegetables are high in fiber and low in starches that can have negative effects on the balance of your body. Most diets say that you can eat as many green vegetables are you like, with no negative consequence. You can not say that for potatoes and corn.

Now, adding green vegetables to your menu may not be appealing to your children. A good way to get around this is to finely chop them and add them to sauces, or season them with seasoning salts. Another trick is to add a low fat cheese sauce over the top of them to add appeal. Whatever method you use, adding greens to your menu will add health to your body.

Water Pleas

Finally you should get rid of the beverages loaded in sugar and caffeine and replace them with water. Water is the essential nutrient for the human body and necessary for the carrying out of all life functions. That being said, water is also a great detoxifying agent and will leave you hydrated and give you a full feeling to help you decrease your portion sizes.
